Task 7

During a Mosaic Steel Orchestra band practice on June 10, 2015, the external evaluator will engage in non-participant observation. The qualitative data will be recorded through written field notes. Field observation of participants and teachers will also take place during a public musical performance in Norfolk, Virginia on June 13, 2015. The program director will be interviewed in person on June 15, 2015. This will take approximately twenty minutes. The interview will discuss the overall projected outcomes of Mosaic Steel Orchestra, and it's level of availability for at-risk youth. The evaluator previously requested access to quantitative statistical data for the number of students who receive financial assistance. This data will be viewed during the interview with the director.

The evaluation will continue at a second Mosaic S.O. Stage Side Ensemble practice on June 15, 2015. Participants in the program will be distributed an anonymous written survey to gauge their opinion of the effects that M.S.O. has had in their life. It is optional if they want to release their age and length of time in the program. The survey will examine the impact  Mosaic Steel Orchestra Stage Side Ensemble has in instilling leadership, focus, and teamwork in it's members. The evaluator will compile the qualitative data of the survey, and compare it to the statistical data. The overall results will be submitted by June 25, 2015.
